About

I’m Julia Kirk, a 65-year-old grandmother with a passion for helping women get and stay fit for a lifetime.

My personal experience with exercise and fitness runs from the dawn of Title IX, (think 1970’s when women’s sports were required to be financed by educational institutions), through one fitness craze after another as I personally worked to maintain or regain my fitness after having 2 kids, surgeries, menopause and old (ha ha) age.

30 years ago, I decided to help others, both men and women, work to reach their fitness goals as a personal trainer. I actually took this to the extreme and owned 2 gyms!

I realized early on, that women were constantly being told of their body’s limitations that had no basis in fact. I’m sure you’ve heard that weight lifting will make you look like a man. (No, it won’t!)

The list of limitations increased as we got older:  We shouldn’t do HIIT, High Intensity Interval Training. (Yes, we should!) The programs, books, classes and videos were either geared toward people who already had bodies of steel or chair-bound individuals.

Most of us were left….hanging. Time for another alternative.

My philosophy of working toward staying fit for a lifetime was born from my experience with baby-boomers who wanted to continue being as physically active as possible but had bodies with some wear and tear on them.

They wanted to play ball, swim, kayak, sky-dive, sail, golf, hike, run marathons, garden…… so they needed the right programs. And they wanted to look good while, whatever.  Combatting that roll around the middle and jiggly arms are top of the list!

I’m here to help you by giving you knowledge and helping you use that knowledge to benefit your health.

Certified by both NASM (National Association of Sports Medicine) and AFAA (American Fitness & Athletic Association) as a Personal Trainer and Group Fitness Instructor, with special certifications in Programming for Peri & Post- Menopausal Women, Active Aging Training, and Myofascial Compression Techniques gives me a strong basis for my advice and training tips.

You’ll get science-based answers to fitness and health questions to help keep you “fit for your lifetime” along with a good dose of humor and fun because exercise is your time to play!

So, what’s my everyday life like? Obviously, I spend time working with personal training clients, both individuals and groups and I stay up-to-date with the latest research, techniques and fitness fads. But I don’t spend my days obsessing over fitness…boring.

With my love for learning and curiosity in the world around me, I enjoy exploring my new state of Tennessee and helping my daughter rehab home flips when I’m not helping out on the family’s 25+ acre hobby farm! Part of each week I work as a Licensed Real Estate agent and as granny nanny to my 2-year-old grandson. I’m a voracious reader and love to cuddle with Sugar Bear and Dixie, my Boston Terrier dog rescues.

In addition, I am CPR/AED Certified, hold a Master of Science in Speech Pathology from the University of Minnesota and an Associate Degree in Interior Design from Tidewater Community College in Chesapeake VA.
